Break
into Business is an award winning one-week entrepreneurship
camp developed by the Centre for Entrepreneurship Education
and Development (CEED). This camp gives children the opportunity
to develop and implement entrepreneurial skills.
Break into Business was developed to provide young people
(ages 11-16) with an entrepreneurial experience using
the activities and business simulation as a vehicle towards
discovering their own personal qualities, characteristics
and attitudes as an entrepreneur. The program was designed
around the Business for a Day activity, which allows participants
to create operate and close a mini-venture in a day.
Today’s job market is changing rapidly and it is
necessary to expose youth to the entrepreneurship option.
By developing their personal qualities, characteristics,
and attitudes, this program prepares youth for the challenge
of their lives.
The program contains 25 hours of activities plus 5 hours
devoted to selling. The goal for the participants is not
to generate the highest dollar profit, but to recognize
that they have what it takes to make it in today’s
competitive world and to understand they can take control
of their own futures.
Participants play various games and enjoy numerous activities
including operating their own individual "Business
for a Day." They then relate their experiences to
what they have learned from the activities.
Break into Business camps recently received a Best Practice
in Youth Entrepreneurship Training Award at the 1999 Enterprise
Edge Conference held in Victoria, British Columbia.
Break into Business camps are held during the March break
and at various times during the summer. If you are interested
